End of Summer Poem

sun beats
steaming like hot bath water
against my thighs.

grass waves
green and glittering in the wind,
a sea of moving sunlight.

eyes rove
up to a blue sky swathed in clouds
and streaks of heaven dust.

coke spreads
foam across my tongue,
forming frothy gulps and burps.

bicycles buzz
by in a swift whir of tires,
fading fast from existence.

wind whistles
rustling my jacket and my nerves
hair prickles on my skin.

I tingle
absorbing heat and summer pulse,
sweet numbness as I release

the last few rays of summer.
